The daily routines of the daycare
We endeavour to follow the children's clues, which mean that we observe and analyse the children and use their input to involve them in the planning of projects and outings. Each room (blue, green, white, orange, red and yellow) will have their own routines and projects reflecting that particular room’s unique personality.
Being inside or outside?

We place great value on having the children spend time outdoors here at Æblehaven. For this reason we require that your child’s locker be filled with clothing that reflects the various weather conditions found in Denmark. Of course there will be days where the children aren’t outside as much due to extreme weather conditions – or due to specific inside projects the children may be working on. That could be finger-painting or clay building - or more physical activities such as singing and dancing.
Luckily the daycare is placed near the heart of Copenhagen. Not only do we have our own wonderful playground with play structures, sand boxes, plenty of toys and secret play corners but we also benefit from the common playgrounds and parks in the area. To mention a few, we have a playground in Århusgade which has an assortment of play structures different than our own, i.e. a great pirate sh ip. A big field close by, Fælledparken, is also an area we use often given the fact that it allows the children to run, play ball and allows them to explore a large space. Fælledparken also holds heaps of smaller and bigger playgrounds which the children enjoy a great deal. Sometimes we bring a bigger group of children to these facilities, other times a daycare worker might recognize the need for one or two children to benefit from a cosy and relaxed trip.
In our daycare the older children sleep inside and the youngest ones sleep in baby carriages outside. We are very aware of making sure that each child (and especially the older ones who sleep inside) gets some fresh air at least once and preferably twice a day.
Eating at Æblehaven
Sundous is our kitchen worker. She cooks delicious and nutritious meals for us from Tuesday to Friday every week. She prepares varied meals, so that the child gradually learns to eat many different kinds of food. The children get milk and water with the meals. It is important that everyone sits and eats together and that each child in time learns to eat and drink without help.
Lunch
From Tuesday to Friday we provide the children with lunch. We follow the requirements for organic, nutritious and varied meals provided by the government. We are also aware of your child’s specific needs. If your child doesn’t eat a specific kind of meat or fruit, we make sure to substitute this with a healthy alternative.
This means that on Mondays the children are required to bring their own lunches´. Every Monday the children are excited about their lunch and they inquisitively follow the other children as they too unwrap their lunches from home.
Snack
At 9 am and 2 pm we serve a snack of freshly made bread, Swedish crackers or something similar – and always fruit.
When Sundous is on holiday we require that the children bring their own lunch each day of the week. Keep an eye on the newsletter where we will let you know when Sundous is on holiday. |
